Flowing with Holy Spirit in Kids Church

Kids’ ministry should be more than just keeping kids entertained for an hour. We’re not babysitting. We’re raising up a generation of world-changers. And if we want to see kids truly transformed, we have to create space for Holy Spirit to move.

Holy Spirit Isn’t Just for Adults

Too often, we assume kids can’t handle deep spiritual moments. But there is no junior Holy Spirit. The same Spirit who moves in “big church” wants to move in kids’ church. The question is, are we making room for Him?

Holy Spirit isn’t just a force or a feeling. He’s God, actively working in our kids. He speaks, convicts, empowers, and reveals Jesus in ways we can’t manufacture with a perfect lesson plan. If we let Him lead, He will show up.

What Does Flowing with Holy Spirit Look Like?

1. Prioritizing His Presence Over the Plan

Yes, structure is important. But God moves in surrendered spaces. If we’re so locked into the schedule that we rush through worship or cut short prayer time, we’re missing what matters most.

Sometimes, Holy Spirit wants to do more in five minutes of His presence than we can do in an entire lesson. We have to be okay with interruptions if they’re coming from Him.

2. Teaching Kids to Listen to God

Kids can hear God. They just need to be taught how to recognize His voice.

• Create moments of stillness in worship. Let them sit quietly before God.

• Teach them that God speaks in different ways. He speaks through His Word, in their hearts, or even through others.

• Ask open-ended questions: “What do you think God is saying to you today?”

• Celebrate when kids share what they hear! It builds confidence and expectation.

3. Expecting the Supernatural

If we believe God moves in powerful ways, why wouldn’t He do it in kids’ church?

• Lay hands on kids and pray for healing.

• Invite Holy Spirit to fill them.

• Teach them about the gifts of the Spirit and let them step out in faith.

• Encourage kids to pray for each other. You’ll be amazed at what happens!

Kids don’t need a watered-down, kid-friendly version of the Gospel. They need the real thing.

4. Leading by Example

Kids will follow your lead. If you’re passionate in worship, they will be. If you expect God to move, they will too. But if we’re just going through the motions, they’ll pick up on that too.

Before we ask kids to yield to Holy Spirit, we have to ask ourselves:

➡️ Are we flowing with Holy Spirit in our own lives?

➡️ Are we listening for His voice?

➡️ Are we making space for Him?

Kids won’t learn to follow the Spirit if we don’t show them what it looks like.

A Generation Marked by His Presence

What if kids grew up knowing Holy Spirit personally instead of waiting until adulthood to truly encounter Him? What if we raised up a generation that expected God to move, listened for His voice, and operated in His power?

It starts with us. It starts with making room.

Let’s build kids’ ministries that aren’t just fun but are filled with the fire of God. Let’s create an atmosphere where kids don’t just learn about Jesus. They encounter Him.

Because when Holy Spirit moves, kids don’t leave the same.
