What to Do When Holy Spirit Shows Up in Kids Church

You’ve been praying for Holy Spirit to move in your kids’ service and then He does. Suddenly, kids are encountering God, some are weeping, some are feeling His presence in a way they never have before… You’re standing there thinking, “What do I do now?”

Here’s the answer: Trust Him.

If Holy Spirit is moving, it’s not up to us to control it. It’s not about our plans or what we think should happen next. It’s about surrendering to what He’s doing in the room.

You Don’t Have to Have All the Answers

There may be moments where you feel unsure. Moments where the presence of God is so thick that you don’t know what to do next. Guess what? That’s a great place to be. Because when we don’t know what to do, it forces us to lean in and listen.

Holy Spirit always knows what to do. Our job isn’t to figure it all out. It’s to be sensitive and obedient.

How to Flow When the Spirit Moves

1. Don’t Rush It

One of the biggest mistakes we can make is moving too quickly. If kids are in the presence of God, let them stay there.

• If worship is breaking something open, don’t cut it off to move to the next thing.

• If kids are crying, praying, or just sitting in awe, don’t fill the silence with talking.

• If God is stirring something, let it happen.

It’s not our job to make things happen. It’s our job to make space.

2. Listen to What the Spirit is Saying

God might be leading in a way you didn’t expect. Maybe He’s highlighting a specific kid who needs prayer. Maybe He’s shifting the entire direction of your service. Maybe He’s bringing healing, deliverance, or a fresh outpouring.

Stay sensitive. Pause and ask, “Holy Spirit, what are You doing right now?” Then respond accordingly.

3. Teach Kids to Steward the Moment

Kids don’t always know what’s happening when they encounter God for the first time. This is where we step in to help guide them.

• Encourage them to ask, “Holy Spirit, what are You saying to me?”

• Remind them that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed, joyful, emotional, or even unsure.

• Lead them in simple prayers of response, like “Jesus, I receive what You’re doing in me.”

Encounters aren’t just for the moment. Encounters are meant to mark them for life.

4. Keep the Focus on Jesus

Holy Spirit always leads us to Jesus. If kids are encountering Him, don’t make it about the experience alone. Make it about knowing Him more.

• Encourage them to share what they felt God spoke to them.

• Help them connect what happened to their everyday walk with Jesus.

• Remind them that encounters are amazing, but a life with Jesus is the goal.

Let God Be in Control

At the end of the day, this is His ministry, not ours. We can plan, prepare, and create an atmosphere for God to move, but when He does, our role is to follow.

So don’t stress if you don’t have all the answers. You don’t need to. Holy Spirit is the best leader in the room. Trust Him. Listen. And let Him move.

Because when kids truly encounter God, they will never be the same.
