Why We Homeschool: Training for Heaven, Not Just Harvard

I want to start by saying, we don’t homeschool just to get the work done. We homeschool because connection matters more than completion.

In our house, the goal isn’t perfect penmanship or acing a math test.

The goal is this: that our kids would know who they are, who God is, and that they’re deeply loved and seen every single day.

Because here’s the truth, we’re not raising scholars. We’re raising sons and daughters of the King. We’re not just training them for college. We’re training them for calling.

Slower Doesn’t Mean Less Valuable

Our world is obsessed with hustle, speed, and checking boxes. But Heaven isn’t in a rush.

Some days, we pause a history lesson because one of our kids is wrestling with fear. Other days, we stop everything to talk about what it means to love someone who’s different from you. And some days, we just stop and worship.

That’s not getting behind. That’s getting it right.

We’ve learned that a meaningful conversation with our child will outlast any curriculum. Because at the end of the day, our greatest job is not to prepare them for the SAT. It’s to prepare them for surrender. For wisdom. For truth. For real life with Jesus.

We Homeschool to Be Present

In a world full of distractions, we want our kids to know that our presence is intentional and that God’s presence is real. That means putting connection over convenience. Relationship over routine.

It’s not always easy. Some days are loud. Some days feel like we’re herding cats. But every moment, every story read while snuggling on the couch, every prayer whispered after a tough lesson, it’s all shaping their spirit.

We’re not just teaching information.

We’re teaching them how to walk in truth, how to fail with grace, how to love big, and how to hear God’s voice.

We’re Building a Home That Hosts His Presence

When we homeschool, we get to shape the atmosphere. We fill the room with worship. We start the day in prayer. We let questions turn into kingdom moments.

It’s not a classroom. It’s a sanctuary.

I don’t need them to memorize every date in American history if they forget who they are in Christ. I don’t need them to quote Shakespeare if they can’t recognize the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit.

And maybe that sounds radical. But I’ll take raising God-loving, Spirit-led, others-honoring kids over a padded transcript any day.

We Homeschool Because the Heart is the Priority

The goal of education in our home isn’t just academic achievement. It’s spiritual alignment.

That means we talk about hard things. We pray through conflict. We teach them how to think, not just what to think. We slow down long enough to ask, “How’s your heart today?” and actually wait for the answer.

Homeschooling gives us that space.

And eternity is too important to rush through that.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a parent considering homeschool or maybe you’re in the thick of it, wondering if you’re doing it “right”, just remember this:

God didn’t call you to perfection. He called you to presence.

We’re not aiming to raise perfect kids. We’re aiming to raise kids who know how to run to a perfect Father.

So no, we’re not training them for Harvard. We’re training them for Heaven. For courage. For compassion. For calling. And in the process, we’re becoming more like Jesus too.

And that, to us, is worth it all.
